It looks like Nintendo is entering the collectable card game market this fall with the release of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on September 25th. The game is designed to function with special amiibo cards that will add characters into the game. The cards are not required for play, but they are intended to enhance the experience.
The amiibo cards will be released in a set of 100 that will launch on day one. Players will be able to purchase blind booster packs (like Pokemon or Magic cards) that each contact six random cards. Each pack will retail for $5.99 putting the base value of each card at about a dollar.
Players who purchase the physical game will receive one complimentary card in the box. Anyone who opts to purchase the game digitally will, instead, get an Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer themed home screen for their 3DS instead.
I have to admit I’m a bit nervous here. If I knew I could buy a pack of these and be satisfied, then I wouldn’t mind it. The fact that the set only obtainable through blind packs and trading makes me nervous about how much extra money I would need to spend to play this game.
What do you think? Are you all in on the amiibo cards? Sound off in the comments!
