Splatoon has been a huge hit since its release a few months ago, but one of the main complaints initially was that the game felt “sparse” for a full price game. Nintendo has endeavored to fix all of that by slowly releasing free updates to the game every few weeks. This has served to increase the content in the game AND keep people talking about it well beyond the normal life of most games.
August 5th is going to be a big day for Splatoon as it will be getting the biggest update since the games launch. Below is a list of everything being added to the game.
1. The update will introduce Squad Battle and Private battle matchmaking options. Squad Battle gives players there chance to play in ranked battle with their friends. This means that they won’t have to play with random characters and will allow for some coordination. Private Battle gives players the chance to “splat it up” in private, heavily customizable matches. Two to eight players will be able to choose their maps, games modes, and weapons. They won’t even need to make the matches even!
2. The level cap will increase from 20 all the way to 50! That will mean a lot more leveling available to keep players interested in the progression! S and S+ ranks are also being added to ranked mode.
3. Two new weapons TYPES are being added to the game. Bucket-like Sloshers and gatling-style Splatling guns. Sloshers throw ink straight forward with a long range while Splatling guns that allow players to charge up powerful attacks. More weapons types is a great addition to the game as it will add a lot of the variety to the matches. We don’t know how good the different weapons will be, but we will find out soon enough!
4. 40 different pieces of gear will be added to the game for players to earn as they gain levels. I can’t wait to see what they all look like!
That’s a lot of great stuff, but Nintendo was VERY quick to add that they will be adding even more content as the summer continues and the fall arrives. Keep your eyes on Engaged Family Gaming for more updates as they come up!
